Dorothea Lange - White Angel Breadline

This picture, as well as most of Lange's notable work, depicts a tragic scene, A man waiting for food due to the face he cannot afford any. The main subject facing the opposite way of his fellow subjects makes for an emotional feeling while viewing the image.

Rock - Dave McKean

This artwork is McKean who is known for his multimedia talents. This happens to be a photo edit. The realistic effect of this piece makes it extraordinary and makes you believe you are looking at a superhero of some sorts. I personally am impressed by this piece because it has such detail not only in the original portrait but the skill of editing is remarkable.

Jumps - Philippe Halsman

Philippe Halsman is a famous portrait photographer who was born in Russia and later moved to the U.S.  I enjoy his photography because all of his portraits capture a more humorous side of all it's subjects. To make the portraits even more interesting than they already are the subjects are usually celebrities. The black and white coloring of every portrait also makes them very simple yet clean photos.

Bomb Hugger - Banksy

Banksy is an anonymous street artist known for his very political pieces. I personally have always admired Banksy's work and his messages. In the mural to the left a girl is painted to be holding a bomb. This hints at the strong war influences children have to go through starting at a young age. I personally agree with the message and think the is very powerful.

Untitled - Nick Rattigan

Nick happens to be my favorite creative. From making amazing music to amazing photographs and art, he is my biggest inspiration. All of his photos seem to capture everyday moments in a larger than life way. I love this photo because I have never seen a skating shot as cool as this one. The photo has many interesting coloring from the red of the board and socks to the bright blue of the sky in the background.

SWEAT - Spencer McCullen

Another artist I found while I was scrolling through tumblr. Looking at McMullen’s art I notice very bright colors mixed with ordinary situations. The backgrounds are always very fun and playful throughout all of the work as you can see by the bright colors and drawing of a clown in the background of this piece. I like this work because it looks like it was colored by marked and has the look that a 4th grader colored it. I actually think this makes the work that much more interesting due to the subjects of the drawing being drawn very carefully and I think the contrast between the precision of the drawing and the messy ness of the coloring makes the art that much cooler.

Kabul, Afghanistan - Steve McCurry

This image is very breathtaking just considering its coloring, but once you look longer you can see many different factors. Not only do you have the tall men shoe shopping next to the short woman, but the men's attire contrasts perfectly with each other to create a lovely color scheme.

Untitled - Peter Blake

Peter Blake is another pop artist like Andy Warhol. He is known for his collages. I find most of his collages very interesting due to the iconic images and bright color schemes. I enjoy how his images look like they all have a high grain on them because it adds a vintage effect on them. This collage I like especially because I feel like its the stereotypical embodiment of the 50s in America.

Gunshot Wedding - Danny Galieote

Danny Galieote has an collection of paintings called 'femme fetal' which this painting came from. I like the twisted take on stereotypical women. I think Galieote's style is also very traditional with a modern take but he still makes it unique. I personally like this painting because the main focus is on the woman's back side and then you are surprised when you realize she is holding a shot gun.

Untitled - Benisright

Benisright is another Instagram artist I found. His style is very dark images with very colorful pictures. I really like his work due to the irony of the pictures if you pay attention. The images are paradoxes in themselves and that is what makes them so unique and interesting.

Inker - Walt Disney

Walt Disney is one of the most famous animators in the history of animation. We all know and love mickey mouse and all the Disney characters. Disney started from mickey mouse and turned into a multi million dollar franchise. I love the Disney movies because they remind me of my childhood.

White Ferarri Concept - Tyler Simien

I found this while scrolling in twitter and the picture itself is supposed to be a fan made cover art to the song “White Ferrari” by Frank Ocean. I personally love how this looks like an ad from the 80s and the simplicity of it. This happens to be one of my favorite songs so to see such a cool cover art for it is amazing and I think this artist captured it perfectly. I also notice how the border to the photo makes it more professional looking and make the piece as a whole go together.

Peak and Lake - Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams is known for his landscape photos and there is a strong reason for that. In the photo to the left the still lake, gloomy clouds, and high peak mountain make for a beautiful photo. The black and white also allows the viewer to imagine the beauty of the colors which I enjoy. I love this photo because it captures the beauty so well it looks fake.

Tiny person huge sofa - Jean Jullien

Jean Jullien is an Instagram artist I found while looking for art to blog about. I noticed he uses very basic lines and shapes and most of his work is based on one color. I really like this work because although it is basic it appears really clean and interesting. For instance, the painting on the left seems like a red couch but once you look closer there is a tiny person which keeps this painting interesting.

Luna y Sol -  Rufino Tamayo

This painting is very interesting. The strange faces on the sun and moon in contrast with the detailed background of blue and yellow. The shaded part of the moon even has an interesting pattern to it.

The Lovers - Rene Margritte

This painting is one of the most famous paintings to ever be made. The aesthetically pleasing color palette versus the strange depiction of a couple making out with bags on their heads captivates people.

Homberg - Thomas Lamadieu

Thomas Lamadieu is an artist that has been recently circling around the internet for his interesting perspective on modern architecture and sky pictures. I think it is very creative that Lamadieu draws characters based off of everyday places that one wouldn't think to be places where creativity could thrive. I personally like this painting because of the tree being the man's hair and the sky turning into space.

Edgar Degas - Rehearsal on Stage

This painting is very nice in the fact it almost looks like a low quality picture. The subjects seem to be getting ready for a recital and the boy language and facial expressions make the painting even more realistic. The best part of this painting is that all of the subjects seem to be doing something different which leads to the chaos feeling of this painting.

Sylvester Stalone - Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is known for his pop art but many people disregard his photography. Much of his photography is portraits of celebrities he was friends with. Some how Warhol is able to capture each celebrities personality with the one shot polaroid. I personally enjoy his photography because of its simplicity,

Starry Night over the Rhone - Vincent Van Gogh

Van Gogh is one of the most famous painters who ever lived. I personally don't like his staple piece "Starry Night" but this painting I do admire. The variations of the similar colors make the painting interesting.

2/19/19

The Son of Man - Rene Magritte

The Son of Man is one of the most famously recognizable paintings in history. The countless number of homages that have been completed based off of this work are endless. I personally enjoy this painting because the mystery of the man makes the painting have so much more character.

The Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle

Since I grew up with Carle's work it has a very adolescence feel to it. I do think that Carle is very talented because he is so unique in the way he creates his artwork the overlapping of the paper really creates an amazing look. The coloring of this piece is very strong but makes a very good piece with its variations in colors.

The Anatomy of Mr. Bird - Hillary White

This painting is a pop culture reference to Sesame Street and The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulip. I think White did a great job on this piece and having the most popular sesame street characters in the painting. I also admire the contrast of Elmo next to blue because the primary colors look good together.

The Mild Mild West - Banksy

In this mural bansky makes a play on the wild wild west by changing the w to an m and making it mild. The irony is that the only mild thing about this painting is the bear but even at that the bear is holding a torch. I like this painting because it depicts a riot with something as non harmful as a teddy bear, which was obviously banksy's intention.

HK & Kevin Doan - Ashlan Grey

Ashlan Grey is the photographer for one of my favorite bands, Brockhampton. I admire his work very much because most pictures have very simple backgrounds and the photos are emphasized on the subjects rather than the background. All the photos are in very normal day to day context which makes them that much more admirable.

2/26/19

Marble Champion - Norman Rockwell

Norman Rockwell us known for capturing the stereotypical American life through realistic paintings. I like Rockewell's work because it looks like something straight out of a 50s advertisement. I enjoy this era and style of drawing because it captures the zeitgeist of the era perfectly. I also like all the attention to details Rockwell puts into his paintings.

2/27/19

Reel Around The Fountain - @badartbymeghan

I found this piece on instagram by an artists named Meghan. I think the ugly style of the face and the illustrating of it makes it a very interesting piece. I also like how the hand is cut off and holding the balloons in this drawing because it’s a detail I didn’t notice at first and it’s a very cool detail to have in a piece.

2/28/19

orangewhite&blue - Zack Villere

I personally really admire Zach Villere’s uniqueness and boldness of colors in his work. In this drawing as well there is always strange faces and overlapping that makes a very strange yet impelling image. Villere is a bedroom artist and visual artist as well which I admire for the fact both types of art he makes correlate in style.

untitled - Marcus Oakley

Marcus Oakley is an artist I found on instagram. I have mixed emotions on his art due to the basic-ness of it. Although I do like basic art in some cases I think the lack of color in Oakley's work makes it lack substance. Although I do appreciate the simple lines I don't appreciate the emptiness of his work as a whole.

The Great Wave off of Kanagawa - Hokusai

This is one of the most famous paintings to ever grow popularity. I of course only know this painting by Hokusai which gives him a sort of Grant Wood vibe to his work as an artist. The very basic color palette makes for a very aesthetically pleasing painting with very intricate details.

The Last Supper - Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo Da Vinci is a world renowned scientist and artist that made many groundbreaking inventions that changed society. I personally find Da Vinci very interesting as a person and an artist because he created such interesting work. Many of his works shaped ideas we still believe today in society.
